In September 2022, the NYC Civic Engagement Commission (CEC) launched The People’s Money – NYC’s first-ever citywide participatory budgeting process! All New Yorkers age 11 and up, regardless of immigration status, can decide how to spend $5 million of Mayoral expense funding. From May 10th through June 25th, 2023, tens of thousands of New Yorkers voted on paper or digital ballots for their borough and neighborhood. We are now entering Phase 4 of The People’s Money - Implementation. To kick off this phase, we are spreading awareness around voting results and highlighting programs that will receive funding.

The Haitian American Caucus was selected to implement a Career Readiness and Job Training program in the Canarsie neighborhood, 10 sessions from January 22nd to May 27th, 2024.

Our sessions will include the following:

  • Assessing individual interests and skills

  • Exploring different career paths and industries

  • Crafting effective resumes

  • Writing compelling cover letters

  • Mock interviews

  • Developing effective communication skills

  • Handling common interview questions

  • Building a professional online presence (LinkedIn)

  • Developing soft skills (communication, teamwork)

  • Workplace etiquette and professionalism
